Welcome to Episode 177 of the Salsa Kings LIVE podcast
We have been featured as #1 in “Top 10 Salsa Podcasts” on FeedSpot.
Hey, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of the Salsa Kings podcast. I’m Andres Fernandez, and I’m here with my co-host, Pablo Peña. This episode, we’re talking about the idea “slow is fast.” We explain what it means in dancing and life, share stories from a recent dance party, and give tips on how to truly enjoy salsa. So, let’s get started!
Key Points
- The Story of the Cuban Couple
Pablo recently went to a party in Doral called El Domingazo with some students and other instructors. While there, he saw an incredible Cuban couple dancing. They weren’t formally trained but had amazing connection and style. Their dancing wasn’t about flashy moves; it was about feeling the music and connecting with their partners. This inspired Pablo to dance more like them—relaxed, natural, and focused on enjoying the moment. - The Mountain Analogy
Pablo shared a great analogy about climbing a mountain. Imagine you’re an experienced climber who can reach 3,000 feet, but your partner can only climb 1,000 feet. Instead of leaving them behind, you need to meet them at their level so you can explore the mountain together. The same goes for dancing: it’s not about how high you can go but how much fun you can have with your partner. - Dancing at Your Partner’s Level
Dancing is about connection, not showing off. If you push your partner to do moves they’re not ready for, they won’t enjoy the dance. When you adjust to their level, you both can breathe, relax, and express yourselves together. This makes the dance more fun for both of you. - The Importance of Relaxation
Many people on the dance floor look tense and stressed, trying too hard to impress. Instead, focus on being comfortable and relaxed. Dancing isn’t a race—it’s about enjoying the process. Whether it’s a three-minute song or a lifelong hobby, take your time and have fun. - Expressing Yourself
Even if you’re dancing at a simpler level, don’t hold back your own style. Self-expression is what makes dancing special. When you express yourself, you inspire your partner to do the same. Together, you create something unique and unpredictable, which is the best part of salsa. - Miami Salsa Cruise 2025
We’re excited to announce that the Miami Salsa Cruise 2025 already has its largest group of reservations ever! There are still a few cabins left, so if you want to join us for dancing, dominoes, and fun, visit MiamiSalsaCruz.com.
Closing Thoughts
At the end of the day, dancing is about connection, fun, and sharing joy with others. Remember, “slow is fast.” Taking your time to connect with your partner and express yourself will lead to more fulfilling dances. Thank you for tuning in to Episode 177, and we hope to see you on the dance floor—or maybe even on the cruise! Until next time, keep dancing and keep smiling.
