Hey everyone! Welcome back to salsa kings live. It’s episode 162. Andres here, along with Pablo. Today, we’re talking about something special called “Do You See Me?” It’s all about connecting better with the people in our lives, whether they are friends, family, or dance partners.

Key Points

Connecting Intentionally

In our busy lives, we sometimes forget to connect with others with purpose. It’s important to make an effort to connect deeply. This can be through simple acts like writing a letter, sending a message, or giving them a call. Even though it takes more time and effort, it shows we care.

Understanding Musicality

Pablo talks about dancing and musicality. He explains that when we dance, we connect with our partner and the music. There are three ways to understand a song: third person, first person, and second person.

  • Third Person: This is when we watch the story of the song from the outside. For example, if Marc Anthony is singing about a woman, we see the story between Marc Anthony and the woman.
  • First Person: This is when we put ourselves in the shoes of the singer. For example, if Eminem is singing “Lose Yourself,” we feel like we are Eminem.
  • Second Person: This is when we imagine ourselves as the person being sung to. For example, in the song “Rosa La Peligrosa” by Alexander Abreu, we imagine we are Rosa, the girl he is singing about.

Interpreting the Melody

Andres explains that songs have different feelings, just like colors. No two songs feel the same. He compares song feelings to colors like red, blue, and yellow. Just like colors can be bright or dull, songs can have different levels of intensity. This helps us connect better with the music and our dance partner.

Lyrics vs. Melody People

Pablo shares an interesting idea. Some people connect more with the lyrics of a song, while others connect more with the melody. He wonders if people who love lyrics dance better with people who love melodies. He gives an example of dancing with Yaney, who loves melodies, while he loves lyrics. Together, they create a great dance connection.

Andres adds that this might be because one person focuses on the lyrics and the other on the melody, covering all aspects of the song. They ask listeners to think about whether they are lyrics or melody people and how it affects their dancing.

Closing Thoughts

Andres and Pablo encourage listeners to explore how they connect with music. They also invite everyone to join them on the Miami Salsa Cruise in February 2025 for fun and dancing. The cruise will have live salsa music, workshops, and lots of excitement.
