We have been featured as #1 in “Top 10 Salsa Podcasts” on FeedSpot.

Hey, everyone! In this episode, I’m diving into the third part of our “Why Are You Avoiding Me?” series. It’s been a deep and fun conversation and today I wanted to explore the topic further on my own.

Thanks to everyone who tunes in every week, and a special shoutout to David for everything he does for the show. I appreciate all your feedback, so please feel free to reach out to me at andres@salsakings.com with your thoughts or stories.

Key Points

I begin this episode with a question for you: do you prefer to dance with someone who gives energy, or someone you can give energy to?

It’s not about whether you lead or follow, but rather how you connect with your partner. The dance floor is a great place to explore these different dynamics. I encourage you to think about what kind of energy you enjoy—whether you like receiving or giving—and how that affects your dance experiences.

When you and your partner have the same energy preference, it might not always lead to the best connection. It’s all about balance, like the concept of yin and yang. If we practice being the opposite of our partner’s energy, it can lead to a more fulfilling dance. If one person is giving, the other needs to receive, and vice versa. This creates a flow that makes the dance more enjoyable for both people.

I know some might ask, “Why should I change or adapt for someone else?” It’s a valid point, but change is a part of life. Who you are in your 20s is not who you’ll be in your 40s or 60s. As we grow and evolve, it’s important to adapt to our surroundings, including on the dance floor. By being open and flexible, you’ll have a consistently enjoyable experience, regardless of the situation or the partner.

This idea of adapting reminds me of martial arts, like jujitsu or judo. Even if an opponent is smaller, they can use the other person’s energy to their advantage. Similarly, in dance, you can use your partner’s energy, adapting to make the dance flow smoothly. It’s like rolling around in a dance, feeling each other’s energy, and finding balance.

Closing Thoughts

The dance floor is a magical place where we can explore and have fun while discovering more about ourselves and others. I recommend starting any dance by connecting with your partner for a few seconds, feeling their energy, and approaching the experience with an open mind. This helps us let go of past judgments and focus on enjoying the moment. Whether the dance is fast or slow, challenging or easy, we can find joy by connecting with our partner and the music.

I believe that if we practice enjoying every dance, regardless of its pace or intensity, we’ll be able to create positive experiences every time. This approach doesn’t just apply to dance—it’s a life skill. Whether it’s a dance or a challenge, finding balance helps us navigate through it. And on the dance floor, we have the freedom to enjoy every moment without any obligation to extend the relationship beyond that dance.

Thank you for tuning in, and for the ongoing support over 169 episodes. I encourage you all to use the dance floor as a place for growth, joy, and self-discovery. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Remember, everything changes, including us, and the dance floor is a perfect place to explore that journey.

Lastly, I hope to see you all at the Miami Salsa Cruise. It’s the last week of February, and it’s going to be amazing—eight days, seven nights, and live salsa music every night. You can find all the info at miamisalsacruise.com. And if you’re ever in Miami, drop by our new headquarters in Doral; the first class is on me.
